February 19, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

For researchers interested in sequence capture techniques related to NGS, you should be pleased to learn about a new joint Agilent/EMBL practical course on

“Genome Partitioning and Next-Gen Sequencing”:

 Date:              14 – 18 June 2010

 Place:             EMBL-Heidelberg, Germany

The course is open for registration on the EMBL website:

http://www.embl.de/training/courses_conferences/course/2010/AGI10-01/index.html

 and listed on opengenomics.com

http://opengenomics.com/Events/EMBL2010

The course will be held in the newly built Advanced Training Centre at EMBL in Heidelberg. There will be enough space for up to 20 participants that will go through the complete workflow of DNA library preparation (Illumina Genome Analyzer or AB SOLiD) and target enrichment using Agilent’s SureSelect All Exon kit. In addition, there will also be a series of lectures on NGS/genome partitioning/data analysis presented by scientists from EMBL and customers working in that field.

During registration (above link to EMBL website), applicants can choose between Solexa and SOLiD sequencing platforms.

I came across this site the other day: http://bitesizebio.com/. There is a mixture of articles, protocol tips and career advice, written by contributors with varied backgrounds in molecular biology. Pretty interesting and worth revisiting from time to time.

02/02/10: Free MIQE Webinar

February 2, 2010 by · 1 Comment

If you are working with qPCR, as so many of you are, you might already be aware of the so-called MIQE (Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Experiments). The link below leads to a presentation on these guidelines, as well as being a good primer on qPCR. The talk is given by Mikael Kubista from TATAA Biocenter, who have many years of relevant experience in this area.
